A classically trained musician and former ‘cellist, Emily Isaacs has been immersed in the performing arts since childhood. She began modelling and acting professionally as a baby, appearing in stage and screen work throughout her teens before training in music.

After more than twenty years as a ‘cellist and teacher, she returned to her first love of storytelling, drawing on her early experience of character, rhythm, and top-level professional performance. She studied Drama, English Literature and Music, later completing a BA in English Literature with the Open University and an MA in Cultural and Creative Industries at the University of Sussex.

Her writing blends sharp observation, emotional honesty, and dark humour. Whether set in Edwardian London or modern-day Sussex, her work centres on ordinary people facing extraordinary circumstances; often women whose stories have been overlooked or misunderstood.

Emily is co-founder of Scriptworks Productions, an Eastbourne-based creative studio producing short films, features, plays and novels that champion female-led and socially conscious storytelling.

Recent projects

  • Diamond Alice 'The Hoister's Code' – a novella inspired by the true story of London’s all-female Forty Elephants gang.

  • Producing short films Johnny and Jenny Takes a Shortcut and Enough for Scriptworks Productions.

  • After winning the 'Creative Queens' competition and attending the Rocaberti Writers' Retreat, Emily studyied under BAFTA-winning director Michael Davies, who has helped her adapt her award-winning script Diamond Alice from a pilot to a feature film. It was later pitched at Birmingham TV and Film Market and is now actively seeking a producer experienced in managing £7=10m productions.

Emily’s work is united by compassion, humour, and an unflinching curiosity about how people survive, adapt, and keep going when the world tells them not to.

When she isn’t writing or directing, Emily enjoys cross-stitching, gaming, reading and watching an unholy amount of TV. She lives in Eastbourne with her husband, Gino, a video editor and musician, and their family.

Emily has Sjogren's Disease and their two sons are significantly on the autism spectrum with learning disabilities, so she is a keen advocate for the disabled community.

Currently

Emily is editing her debut novel The Chelsea Rationalists and developing Scriptworks’ 2026 slate, which includes adapting two plays, (one into a short, one into a feature) and directing a new stage production.
